What is Tibetan Rug and why is it different?
Tibetan Rug is a hand knotted carpets used for floor covering as well as wall hangings. Tibetan carpets are made by ancient traditional weaving technique. It is the most durable rug in the world. It is more popular because of custom design capabilities.
What is Loom?
Loom is a frame made by iron and wood, the basic purpose of loom is to hold the warp threads under tension to make the knots and facilitate the interweaving of the weft threads.
What is warp and weft?
In weaving Rugs, the warp is the set of lengthwise yarns that are held in tension on a frame or loom. The yarn that is inserted over-and-under the warp threads is called the weft, woof, or filler.
What is Knots?
The cotton warp is the foundation of the rugs, when wool or silk or any other yarns are tied to the cotton warp to make up the pile, it is called knots. Knots is often refer to classify the quality of the weave. For example 100 Knots rug means there are 100 knots per square inch (KPSI). Higher knots means higher yarns density which helps design clearer. Knots is just like a computer or Television screen, higher pixels means higher quality image.
What is pile height?
Pile height is a thickness of a rug or thickness of a pile.
What is different between Chinese Silk and Local Silk?
Chinese Silk is a high quality silk from China which comes as a readymade threads which is one of the most popular silk in the world, the threads are very fine and luxurious. Local silk is a silk made in Nepal, we buy silk cocoons with the local farmers and process the yarn out of it, by processing the silk locally by hand the quality of yarn is bit rough but gives unique texture to the rug. Price wise Local silk is cheaper than the Chinese silk.
What is a minimum and maximum size you can make?
The minimum size we can make is very small swatch like 10X10 cm or 30X30 cm for sample strike offs. The maximum size we can do is 12 meters to the width X 30 meters to the length. But if you have repeat design we can make any size as required.
Can you make multi materials rug?
Yes we have made many rugs combination of Wool, Silk, Linen, Hemp, Allo, banana silk, Bamboo silk and jute in a single rug.
Can you make multi pile height rug? If yes how many different heights you can do in a single rug?
We can do any different heights as you like, in past we have made a single rug with 10 different heights for multi-dimensional effect.
What is the lowest and highest pile height you can do?
Lowest pile height we can do is 3mm and highest can make up to 70mm or 7cm thick pile heights.
How many colors can i use to design in a single rug?
You can use ANY number of colors. Number of colors under 10 is counted as a standard design rug and has a normal price, but price will be higher after every 10 colors.
My design is too complex, can you make my design in any size?
We can make any design but size must be equivalent to the complexity of the design. A very complex designs means change of color/material/pile height in short distance. In 1 cm there will be roughly 4 knots in 100 knots rug and if there are 5 different change in 1 cm that cannot be possible. We recommend you to send us your design for evaluation if you think your design is too complex. After evaluation we can provide you a minimum size requirement of your design. If your design is too complex to fit in your required size there are 2 option. Either increase the knots count or crop your design. Increasing the knots count can be sometime useful because higher knots rug have higher density of knots. Our maximum knot count is 200 knots per square inch, if you design cannot be made in 200 Knots the option left is to increase a rug size or crop a design.
I have my own design, how can I send it to you, do you have any special requirement?
You can send us your design by email, your design can be a photograph, real picture of nature, an artwork, a vector or raster art, handmade paintings or sketch, renderings etc. You can send it to us at tibetanweavers at gmail .com
I have my own idea but I don’t know how to design it, can you help me?
Yes, you can write us your idea in much detail as possible, any images of inspiration and the way you want to see your rug. Our designers will help you to create a computer made renderings. You can also send us the picture of a room and we can make a computer CAD placing your rug on site.
I am an interior designer, I want to order custom rugs but I am not sure how to start?
